LEE Vann Corteza beat Naoyuki Oi, 8-7, on Monday to capture the men’s 10-ball crown of the 31st Japan Open 2018 Championship in Tokyo.
The Davao City native took home ¥1,200,000 yen (roughly P560,000) for winning the crown in the tournament featuring 128 players.
Corteza beat Tadasu Sukiguhira of Japan, 8-6, in the round-of-16, and edged Cheng Yu-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei, 8-3, in the quarterfinals.
The Filipino cue artist defeated Wu Kun Lin of Chinese Taipei, 8-4, in the semifinals.
Corteza topped Group 15 in which eight players competed in a knockout qualifier. Corteza hurdled Naoki Yamashita of Japan, 9-6; Sho Tsuken of Japan, 9-1; and Satoshi Aoki of Japan, 9-3.
Kuo Szu Ting of Chinese Taipei won over Akimi Kajitami of Japan, 7-5, in the women’s 10-ball final.
