UNAVAILABILITY of equipment forced the postponement of the annual World 10-Ball Championship at least by a month.
In an open letter to the billiards community posted on pool website azbilliards.com, the board of directors of the organizing Prism-Raya Sports said it has reset the tournament to November 19-25 at the SM North Edsa in Quezon City.
The meet was originally slated from October 9 to 14, but had to be moved to a later date due to lack of ready billiards tables suitable for tournament play.
To make up for the postponement, Prism-Raya Sports will also hold another tournament shortly after the World 10-Ball Championship dubbed World Pool Association (WPA) World Pool Summit from November 26 to 28 and December 1 to 4 featuring play in the men's and women's division.
After the event, the WPA will name its male and female player of the year in a dinner ceremony set December 4.
“We ask members of the world pool community to kindly understand the reasons why these changes in the pool calendar had to be effected. We have done our utmost to find suitable remedies. But the problems simply cannot be resolved in time for us to hold the WTBC starting on October 9. PRISM-Raya views this responsibility with total seriousness and commitment,” said Prism-Raya Sports in the letter.
Prism-Raya also said it is ready to deal with the financial claims of some players who registered early for the tournament.
The organizer also said pool fans can now watch two successive top-notch tournaments on the same venue following the change in the schedule of the World 10-Ball Championship.
