LA Salle broke free in the waning minutes to beat University of the East, 77-71, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on Sunday.
Justine Baltazar and Aljun Melecio finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Green Archers, who improved to a 4-2 win-loss record.
Ricci Rivero added 13 points, Santi Santillan had 12, while Ben Mbala contributed nine points and seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
"We didn't play our game. There are also players who didn't play their game. Nasubukan depth ng bench namin dito, good thing nakaraos," said La Salle coach Aldin Ayo.
La Salle gained steam after Melecio hit a dagger of a triple as the Green Archers took a 74-71 buffer before Baltazar put the finishing touches to the victory with a split from the foul line.
After taking a 71-69 lead on Alvin Pasaol's shot from the free throw with three minutes to go, the Red Warriors missed their last seven shots including two three-point attempts by Pasaol in their final possession.
Pasaol finished with 30 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the field to go with nine rebounds.
Mark Olayon added 13 markers for the Red Warriors, who got the boot in the preseason tournament with a 2-5 card.
