ISSA Gaye had 13 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks as reigning UAAP champion National University beat Adamson, 65-52, on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
The double-double effort by the Senegalese cager ignited the Bulldogs to their fourth win in five outings, bouncing back from an overtime loss to UAAP finals tormentor Far Eastern University last Saturday when Russel Escoto grabbed an offensive rebound to score the go-ahead basket.
Gaye kept NU in control off the boards, outrebounding Adamson, 52-29.
“Nakita namin in our last three games, we were outrebounded. Obviously natalo kami sa offensive rebound ni Russel Escoto. We really focused on that,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano.
J-Jay Alejandro scored 11 points for the Bulldogs.
Nico Capote had 13 points while JD Tungcab had 10 rebounds. Matthew Aquino had eight rebounds and seven blocks for Adamson, which dropped to 1-3 overall.
