THE Philippines advanced to the semifinals of the 2019 World Cup of Pool after beating Canada, 9-5, at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England.
The team of Carlo Biado and Jeff De Luna edged Filipino-Canadian Alex Pagulayan and John Morra to advance to the round of four against the Netherlands.
The duo of Niels Feijen and Marc Bijsterbosch won over the Chinse team of Wu Jiaqing and Liu Haitao, 9-5, in the quarterfinals.
The winner will receive $60,000 per pair (around P3.07 million). Biado and De Luna are already assured of at least $15,000 (around P760,000) for reaching the semifinals.
The Filipino cue artists won over Czech Republic, 7-6, in the first round, and beat Albania, 7-5, in the round-of-16.
In the other semifinal pairing, Austria will be facing Spain.
