    Lyceum hits 12 triples to turn back Mapua in preseason tilt

    DEXTER Zamora had 24 points, burying three of Lyceum’s 12 triples to defeat Mapua, 92-83, on Monday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

    Zamora paced the Pirates (1-0), which falling three triples short of tying the tournament record set by Adamson (15) in its 90-81 victory over San Sebastian in 2011.

    Rhoel Maconocido added 14 points on two triples while Joseph Gabayni had 13 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Joemari Lacastesantos had 10 points, making two triples, while PJ Soliman added nine points, all on three-pointers.

    “Tumama lang,” said Lyceum assistant coach Glenn Capacio about their three-point shooting.

    “Halos lahat rookies pero ang kagandahan, nadadala ng mga veterans,” Capacio added.

    Josan Nimes had 24 points for Mapua (0-2), which is making a return to the preseason tournament this year.

    Lyceum hit seven triples in the first half but only led by six points, 53-47. Wilson Baltazar buried the Pirates’ 12th triple and the lead swelled to its biggest at 13, 77-64, at the end of the third.

    Mapua (83) –Nimes 24, Saitanan 15, Eriobu 13, Biteng 9, Estrella 8, Gabo 5, Layug 4, Stevens 3, Serrano 2, Cantos 0, Brana 0, Canaynay 0.
