DENNIS Orcollo and Rubilen Amit lead six Filipinos who made it to the knockout stages of the World 9-Ball China Open in Shanghai.
Orcollo and Amit were joined by Carlo Biado, Lee Van Corteza, Jeffrey Ignacio, and Johann Chua as they claimed slots in the knockout round after hurdling the preliminaries.
Corteza went undefeated in Group F as he defeated Mateusz Sniegocki, 9-2, and Ralf Souquet, 9-4, to reach the round-of-32.
Reigning world 10-ball champion Amit also came out unbeaten as she won over Akimi Kajatani, 7-2, and Chichiro Kawahara, 7-3, in Group E of the women’s division.
Orcollo will face Rodney Morris in the round-of-32, while Amit goes up against Chieh-Yu Chou in the round-of-16 knockout phase.
Biado won over Hajato Hijikita, 9-6, and Mohammed Al Hosani, 9-7, for a perfect Group E campaign, while Corteza advanced after beating Dai Yong in the one-loss side of Group H to make it to the knockout round.
Unheralded bets Ignacio and Chua clinched a spot in the knockout round from the losers’ bracket.
Ignacio defeated compatriot Warren Kiamco, 9-7, in Group C while Chua downed Jeremy Sossei, 9-6, in Group D.
