Dennis Orcollo, rest of Pinoy pool players wipe out in World 9-Ball Championship

Sep 19, 2015
Dennis Orcollo was the last Filipino standing in the World 9-Ball Championship before losing to Shane Van Boening in the quarterfinals.

DENNIS Orcollo lost in the quarterfinals of the World 9-Ball Championship as Filipinos once again fell short of regaining the title in the prestigious annual event in Doha, Qatar.

Orcollo bowed out of the tournament handily as the recent Southeast Asian Games gold medalist in Singapore lost to Shane Van Boening of United States, 1-11.

Earlier, he won over Darren Appleton of Great Britain, 11-2, in the round-of-16, but failed to sustain his winning run in the quarterfinals.

The loss of Orcollo stretched the Filipinos’ title drought in the meet last won by Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante in 2010 over Kuo Po-Cheng of Chinese Taipei.

Orcollo became the last Filipino standing in the competition after Warren Kiamco was bundled out by Ko Pin Ye of Chinese Taipei, 11-9.

Ko eventually won the crown, beating Van Boening, 13-11, to win the $30,000 cash prize.
