DENNIS Orcollo continued his dominating ways as nine Filipinos advanced in the 2021 US Open Pool Championships at the Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City.
Orcollo beat Paul Spaanstra of the US, 9-2, after he started the competition by blanking Miguel Angel Giron Mendiata of Honduras.
Jeff De Luna, Johann Chua, and Carlo Biado also won in lopsided fashion to move on to the next of the $300,000 tournament offering $50,000 to the winner (around P2.4 million).
De Luna downed Bill Meacham of the US, Chua won over American Kelson Chua, 9-2, and Biado outclassed Vincent Beaurivage of Canada.
Also advancing in the next round were Roland Garcia, who beat Konrad Juszczyszyn of Poland, 9-6, and Jeff Ignacio, who won over Shaun Wilkie of the US, 9-4.
James Aranas beat John Hennigan of the US, 9-4, Roberto Gomez defeated American Lukas Fracasso-Verner, 9-5, and Warren Kiamco bested Justin Espinosa, also of the US, 9-7.
Dan Segui and Daniel Dagotdot, however, were eliminated.
Segui lost to Kang Dee, 9-3, while Dagotdot was blanked by Jayson Shaw of Scotland, 9-0, and defeated by Jesus Atencio of Venezuela, 9-8, in the double elimination format tournament.
