TEN Filipinos led by Dennis Orcollo advanced in the 2021 US Open Pool Championship at the Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City.
Orcollo blanked Miguel Angel Giron Mendiata of Honduras, 9-0, to spearhead the Philippines’ campaign in the event with a prize pool of $300,000, with $50,000 (around P2.4 million) going to the winnner.
Jeffrey de Luna also edged Edward Abraham of the United States, 9-5, Carlo Biado beating Steve Fleming of the USA, 9-2, and Warren Kiamco defeating Michael Delawder of the US, 9-3.
Johann Chua, James Aranas, and Roland Garcia also had dominating opening victories.

Chua subdued Steven Way of the United States, 9-1, while Aranas, the highest seeded Philippine player in the competition at No. 14, downed Sakura Muramatsu of Japan, 9-1. Garcia beat Nic Torraca of the US by a similar scoreline.
Other matches saw Roberto Gomez beating Joseph Testa of the US, 9-7, Jeffrey Ignacio edging Tyler Adolini of the US, 9-6, and Daniel Dagotdot winning over Jaydev Zaveri of India, 9-7.
Dan Segui was the lone Filipino who failed in the opener, absorbing a 9-1 loss to Donny Mills of the US that sent him to the losers’ bracket.
