LEE VAN Corteza made up for the ouster of compatriot and deposed champion Dennis Orcollo as he advanced to the semifinal round of the WPA China Open by beating Chinese Taipei’s Zheng Yu Xuan, 11-7, in Shanghai.

The many-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist earlier defeated Ko Pin Yi, 11-6, in the round-of-16, and Albin Ouschan in the round-of-32.

He will next face Omar Al Shaheen of Kuwait in the Final Four.

The win by Corteza came after Orcollo lost in his round-of-16 match against Fu Che Wei of Taipei, 11-8. The setback ended Orcollo's hopes of retaining the 9-ball crown after he went undefeated in Group H hostilities.

Another Filipino in Carlo Biado also failed to advance in the semi after bowing to Wu Jiaquing of China, 11-6.

Wu will play Fu for the right to face the winner of the Corteza-Al Shaheen match.
