ALFRED Batino had 15 points to lead four Centro Escolar University players in double figures as the Scorpions defeated Emilio Aguinaldo College, 76-67, on Monday in their first game in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Rod Ebondo added 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Joseph Sedurifa had 11 points as the Naascu squad stunned the NCAA side.
“Hindi kami ‘yung dating CEU na bonus lang. Prepared kami sa liga na ito,” said CEU point guard Mon Abundo, who finished with 10 points and five assists.
The Scorpions are making their debut in the preseason tournament, but have been making a splash outside their mother league having formed the core of Café France in the PBA D-League.
“If we win games, masayang masaya na kami. Pero now, we have proven na nagbabago na ang tema ng CEU, marami na kaming championship at nakakasali na kami sa Filoil. Hindi na kami ’yung dating CEU na nakakalaban, talo agad,” said CEU coach Egay Macaraya.
The Scorpions outscored the Generals, 26-12, in the second quarter to grab the lead for good, 38-29, at halftime.
Noube Happi scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, while Igee King and Sydney Onwubere had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Generals
