NEWLY-CROWNED world champion Carlo Biado is back in the Philippines but he won't be staying long as he is set to head back to the US for two major tournaments in August.
Biado paid a courtesy call at the Philippine Sports Commission office at the Philsports Arena where he was commended by PSC chairman Pato Gregorio after winning the World Pool Championship for a second time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Also present were Billiard Sports Confederation of the Philippines president and longtime patron Aristeo ‘Putch’ Puyat, Filipino legends Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante, and former world 10-ball champion Chezka Centeno.
In a few days, however, Biado is slated to compete in the Florida Open in Orlando from August 5 to 10 where the champion will receive $40,000 and the US Open in Atlantic City, New Jersey from August 18 to 23 where $100,000 will go to the winner.

The 41-year-old Biado will look to sustain his momentum after reclaiming the World Pool Championship title he first won in 2017 after he defeated last year’s champion and world No. 1 Fedor Gorst of the US, 15-13, in the finals.
Gregorio hailed the exploits of Biado, who was honored by the government sports agency with a certificate of recognition in simple rites.
“Si Carlo Biado ang halimbawa ng kasabihan na ‘Sports is a great equalizer.’ Nagsumikap, nangarap, nagtagumpay, naging world champion,” said Gregorio. “’Yan ang perfect na sargo.”
Gregorio also said the PSC will continue supporting the Philippine billiards team as its players vie for honors in international competitions.
Biado is part of the national team where he is also expected to compete in the Southeast Asian Games in December.
