FRANCISCO "Django" Bustamante led the Filipinos who claimed opening-day victories but Efren "Bata" Reyes suffered an early setback in the 2013 World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar.

Bustamante defeated Mario Morra of Canada, 9-5, in a Group 11 match, while five other Filipinos also won.

Reyes bowed to His Kai Lun of Chinese Taipei, 5-9, in Group One to move into the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament.

Antonio Gabica and Marlon Manalo hurdled their Group Two matches. Gabica won over Sniegocki Mateusz of Poland, 9-7, while Manalo defeated Hunter Lombardo of United States, 9-4.

Ramil Gallego trounced Khamis Obaidly of Qatar, 9-3, and Jeff De Luna beat Radoslaw Babica of Poland, 9-5, in Group Eight.

In Group 10, Israel Rota won over Han Hao Xiang of China, 9-5, while Raymond Farraon beat Mohd Buainaih of Qatar, 9-4, in Group 12.

Carlo Biado absorbed a 5-9 loss to Chris Melling of Great Britain, 5-9, in Group Six.
