ROBERT Bolick sank a three-pointer with 8.5 seconds left as San Beda defeated De La Salle, 75-72, on Sunday to capture the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup seniors division crown.
Bolick proved to be a thorn once again in the side of his former college team, converting the triple over Santi Santillan to complete San Beda's comeback from six points down in the final minute of the title game.
The thrilling victory also completed an 11-game sweep of the Filoil preseason for the Red Lions - just the third time it has happened in the country's premier preseason event for college teams.
La Salle pulled off the same feat in last year's tournament.
With San Beda down 69-72 with 1:17 left in the fourth quarter, AC Soberano recovered the ball after a block by Mbala and converted a three-pointer to tie the game and set the stage for Bolick's heroics.
Bolick finished the game with 24 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the reigning NCAA champions while Javee Mocon had a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Clint Doliguez also gave San Beda a much-needed lift with eight points, all coming in the fourth quarter including a triple that put the Red Lions ahead, 62-59.
La Salle, however, wiped out a 65-69 deficit behind a 7-0 run that was capped by an Aljun Melecio triple with 1:17 left in the fourth.
"La Salle did a good job. They were up three points but my boys stepped up their game. AC made a shot, then we made a stop, it's really our defense that propelled us to this 11-0 run," said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez.
"I love the way they played today. We were up, we were down. But everybody stepped up. It's really the trust and confidence in our system," he added.
Ben Mbala finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks for the Green Archers, who made it to the finals despite ending up as the fourth seed in Group A at the end of the eliminations.
