EFREN 'Bata' Reyes will see action in straight pool as he is slated to compete in the Predator 72nd World Tournament in New York on July 29 to August 3.
Reyes will seek to end the country’s drought in straight pool, also called 14.1, after Dennis Orcollo and Francisco Bustamante settled for bronze and silver medals in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
Tournament organizers are elated by Reyes’ entry in the event, which has slowly regained following after the rise of 9-ball and 10-ball.
“Efren is a legendary talent and he represents a nation that has risen to the very top of the pool world,” said Dr. Michael Fedak, the tournament’s main benefactor. “His presence at the tournament raises the temperature of the competition, the enthusiasm of the fans, and enhances its stature as a true world-class tournament.”
Among the players who will compete in the event are world 9-ball champion Darren Appleton, Johnny Archer, Thorsten Hohmann, Mika Immonen, John Schmidt, Allen Hopkins, Stephan Cohen and Charlie Williams.
