ANTON Raga continued his impressive run in the 2023 European Open Championship, beating Joshua Filler of Germany, 11-9, to reach the finals at the Hotel Esperanto in Fulda, Germany on Sunday.
The Cebuano billiards player will be vying for the $30,000 (about P1.7 million) top prize after impressing in his first-ever semifinal appearance in a major tournament.
Raga, ranked 114th in the tournament, will face either Shane Van Boening of the United States or David Alcaide of Spain, whose semifinal match is ongoing at posting time.
By reaching the finals, Raga is already assured of a $15,000 (about P850,000) prize money in tournament organized by Matchroom Pool that drew 256 participants.
After going through the losers’ bracket, Raga began the knockout stage with impressive victories over Mateusz Sniegocki of Poland, 10-8, and Ko Pin Yi of Chinese Taipei, 10-0, in the round-of-32.
Raga beat John Morra of Canada, 10-4, in the round-of-16, and Wojciech Szewczyk of Poland, 10-7, in the quarterfinals.
