Amit, Ranola earn spots to world 10-ball draw

Former champion Amit, Ranola earn berths to world 10-ball main draw

RUBILEN Amit and Iris Ranola secured outright spots in Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship which gets underway on Monday at the Robinsons Galleria in Quezon City.

Amit, the winner of the same event in 2009, and Ranola will join defending champion Kelly Fisher, Jasmine Ouschan, Siming Chen and Ga Young Kim along with entries from Netherlands, China, Iran, Germany, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, United States who have already gained spots in the 48-woman draw.

Other Pinay cue artists are set to join Amit and Ranola as a qualifying tournament will be held this weekend at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City to complete the field.

Notable players in the qualifiers are Ho Yun-tan of Chinese Taipei and world championship semifinalists Li Jia, Kyoko Sone and Noriko Onoda of Japan.

Amit and Ranola failed to make it to the finals of last year’s edition. Amit was eliminated by eventual runner-up Chen Tsai-pei in the quarterfinals while Ranola was toppled by Lai Hui-shan in the round-of-16 despite topping her bracket in the group stage.

Fisher won last year’s tournament when she defeated Chen, 10-4.
