    Jun 6, 2014

ALMOND Vosotros had 19 points, Jeron Teng added 14, and De La Salle defeated Southwestern University, 72-64, on Friday at The Arena in San Juan to reach the finals of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.

Norbert Torres had 12 points and nine rebounds while Arnold Van Opstal finished with 11 points for the Green Archers.

The Green Archers outscored the Cobras, 21-12, in the third quarter after the Cobras led, 39-35, at halftime. La Salle also build a 12-0 blast that turned a 46-38 deficit into a 50-46 lead in the third.

“Hard-fought game against SWU,” said La Salle coach Juno Sauler. “It’s hard to prepare for back-to-back games. Credit to how they played us especially at the start of the second period. We were pressing them in the third and it’s fortunate that we were able to adjust in the fourth.”

La Salle, which reached the Filoil preseason final for the fourth time, also limited

Cameroonian reinforcement Landry Sanjo came up with seven rebounds and five blocks for the Cobras, but was limited to just four points by the tough La Salle defense.

Sanjo, who had 16 points and 19 rebounds in the Cobras’ loss to the Green Archers in the Cebu leg of the preliminaries, also suffered a cut above his left eye in the third period that prevented SWU from building a run.

“We put the same defensive game plan in Cebu. It’s a big factor how the bigs executed against Sanjo. It’s good for Norbert and Arnold,” said Sauler.
