ALEX Pagulayan failed to reach the finals of the World 9-Ball Championship after dropping an 11-4 decision against Albin Ouschan of Austria on Thursday in Doha, Qatar.
Ouschan broke away from Pagulayan after the match was tied in the race-to-11, alternate break format semifinals.
Pagulayan, who now represents Canada in international tournaments, was denied of a chance at repeating his feat in 2004 when he won the world 9-ball crown in Taipei against hometown bet Chang Pei-wei.
In the finals, Ouschan battles Shane Van Boening of the United States, an 11-9 winner over Cheng Yu Hsuan of Chinese Taipei. The winner receives $40,000, while the runner-up gets $20,000.
