RONNIE ALCANO prevailed in the losers’ bracket to advance to the finals of the Championship Cloth Pro Classic 9-Ball Tournament in Louisiana.
Alcano will face the undefeated Robb Saez for the championship after the Filipino completed the long climb back from an opening-day defeat.
The former world 9-ball champion lost to Hunter Lombardo, 9-2, after arriving just in time for the tournament, but came back to win his next seven games, including a victory over compatriot Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante en route to the finals of the Association of Billiards Professionals (ABP)-sanctioned tournament.
Alcano beat Charlie Williams, 9-6, on his way to the finals. Also losing to the Filipino were Mike Davis, Ralf Eckert, Israel Rota and Shane Van Boening.
Then, Alcano downed Bustamante, 9-5, and beat Wan Can before his win over Williams.
Interestingly, his trip was made possible by Van Boening who sponsored the Filipino to the tournament, according to billiards website AZBilliards.com.
