SOUTH will be well represented in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 as Zamboanga will take the mantle in hoisting the flag for Mindanao.
The Zamboanga Valientes will parade homegrown talents Das Esa, Jonathan Parreno, and Grevani Rublico, together with Rino Berame and Ferdinand Lusdoc when the President's Cup begins on March 16 at SM Megamall Event Center.
"Yung players namin now sell out crowds in Zamboanga. Hopefully, we could expose them more in this league," said team owner Junnie Navarro.
For Navarro, Zamboanga is going back to its roots as it aims to give more exposure to the proud ballers coming from their province.
"Dito naman tayo nagsimula sa three-on-three," he said. "The reason that we are interested because we are passionate about basketball. Rhayyan Amsali showed that Zamboangenos can excel in this discipline."
Amsali, currently a member of the San Beda Red Cubs, suited up in the 2018 Fiba 3x3 Under-23 World Cup in Xi'An, China.
Zamboanga's entry completed the 12-team cast for the first ever President's Cup, where it will take on teams namely the Manila Stars, Go for Gold-San Juan Knights, Bataan Risers, Quezon City-Zark's Jawbreakers, Pasig-Grindhouse Kings, Bacoor Strikers, Valenzuela Classic, Marikina Shoemasters, Bulacan Kuyas, Vigan Baluarte, and Cebu-Max 4 Birada.
"It's an honor and pride for our city to join this league, especially our fans from Zamboanga. They are really looking forward to watch our homegrown players play in a big league," said Navarro.
