THE Philippine youth basketball team drew a bye in the opener of the Seaba Under-18 men’s basketball tournament tipping off on Tuesday in Singapore.

National head coach Olsen Racela announced the schedule of the tournament, a qualifier to the Fiba-Asia Under-18 men’s championships, via his Twitter account @thebigOls.

The team will debut on Wednesday against Laos before taking on the host country Singapore on Thursday and Malaysia on Friday.

The youth team wraps up its campaign against Indonesia, coached by Filipino Nat Canson, on Saturday.

The top team after the round-robin event earns the title and a trip to Ulaanbaatar for the August 17 to 26 Fiba-Asia Under-18 men’s championship in Mongolia.

Despite finishing fourth in last year’s Fiba tournament, Racela said his team isn’t complacent in the Seaba joust.

Malaysia and Indonesia open hostilities on Tuesday, with the formal opening ceremonies to be held right after the game. Singapore takes on Laos in the nightcap.
