THE Philippines defeated host Malaysia, 93-76, on Tuesday night in the 2014 Seaba Under-18 Championship to formally clinch a berth in this year’s Fiba-Asia Under-18 Championship.
Ranbill Tongco of San Beda and Mark Dyke of National University combined for eight points in an 18-2 run to end the second quarter and put the Filipino cagers ahead, 45-30, en route to their second victory in as many games in the tournament being held in Sabah, Malaysia.
Overall, the Filipinos outscored the host, 27-10, in the second quarter after trailing, 18-20, at the end of the first period.
The victory assured the Philippine youth cagers one of berths reserved for Southeast Asian in the Fiba-Asia meet to be held in Dubai this August.
The Philippines, which defeated Indonesia, 98-35, on Monday, goes for the Seaba crown against Singapore on Wednesday.
