THE WNBL will be giving citations for their contributions to Philippine women’s basketball during the league’s opening ceremonies for the 2021 season on a date still to be determined.
Ever Bilena and Discovery Suites, two companies that bankrolled the national women’s basketball team, lead the awardees along with NLEX coach Yeng Guiao, Vivian Manila of the WNCAA, Bernie Atienza, and the BEST Center.
Aside from the citations, the WNBL will also be honoring the greats of Philippine women’s basketball as it inducts the first batch of members of its Legends Circle.
Guiao will be given a citation as it was during his term as Philippine Basketball League (PBL) commissioner during the late 1990s where the WPBL was formed.
Ever Bilena is currently the sponsor of the Gilas Pilipinas Women, helping the national squad to its first-ever gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
Discovery Suites supported the Perlas Pilipinas national squad and in 2010 the team captured the Seaba Championship for Women for the first time in history.
Manila is one of the officials behind the WNCAA, one of the longest women’s basketball league in the country, while Atienza will be awarded for his contributions to women’s basketball during his time as college coach, national coach, and official of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
The BEST Center will be cited for its grassroots development program through its basketball training academy for boys and girls.
