AS floods continued to ravage most of Metro Manila and its surrounding areas yesterday, thousands took to microblogging site Twitter to help spread word about areas that need immediate attention.

One unlikely individual who pitched in was Los Angeles Lakers bad boy Metta World Peace.

The 6-foot-7 forward, who is thousands of miles away in the United States, played the role of good Samaritan by relaying important messages from fans to his 436,000-plus Twitter followers information on who needs rescuing and who to call for help.

One such tweet by the former Ron Artest to user @Abi_Valte read: "Mayor Jun Binay says to report calls for rescue in the Makati area to 02 - 8701000."

In another message addressed to @JulianMauricio he said: “The Trinity University of Asia-High School campus is open for evacuees. If you can, send clothes, food and water.”

He retweeted several cries for help including this message from @TagaFEUKaKung: "UST HOSPITAL'S GENERATOR ALREADY DIED!!! PLEASE SEND SOME RESCUERS!"

Another message that came from @saabmagalona which World Peace also shared to his followers read, "Flood in UERM hospital is almost at 3rd floor where the nursery is. No rescuers the whole day."

For a man who has a reputation of being a hothead in the NBA, his simple act was admirable. Perhaps he has a soft spot for the Philippines because his youngest son, Jeron Artest, is half-Filipino.
