    Golden celebration as WNCAA set to kick off 50th season

    TO celebrate its golden year, WNCAA kicks off its 50th Season with a bang at the MOA Arena on Saturday.

    Nineteen athletes from the 1970’s to the early 1980’s will be recognized as they honor of the pioneer that paved the way for the league and look forward to the hopeful future ahead.

    Meanwhile, four former board of directors will also be awarded plaque of appreciation.

    “We will look back at the past and pay tribute to the WNCAA greats,” said WNCAA executive director Vivian P. Manila on Wednesday during the press launch at Aristocrat. “We will commemorate the golden year of the league.”

    To officially start the games, defending champion Centro Escolar University will face University of Makati at 2:00 p.m. and the match between San Beda College Alabang and University of Asia & the Pacific will be at 3:30 p.m.

    Participating schools are Assumption Antipolo, Assumption College San Lorenzo, Centro Escolar University, Chiang Kai Shek College, De La Salle Zobel, La Salle College Antipolo, Miriam College, Philippine Women’s University, St. Jude Catholic School, San Beda College Alabang, and St. Paul College Pasig.

    St. Scholastica’s College, St. Stephen’s High School, University of Asia and the Pacific, and University of Makati complete the cast that will compete in 11 sports - basketball, volleyball, futsal, badminton, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, softball, cheerleading, and hip-hop competition.

    For the first time in so many years all of the 15 participating schools will host the season.

    The opening ceremony will be shown via livestream.
