WILLIE Miller believes Philippine basketball’s future is in good hands with Kiefer Ravena and Jeron Teng, his teammates in the Mighty Sports squad bound for the Dubai International Basketball Championships.
The two-time PBA MVP was even more convinced after working out with the two young studs over the past several days and seeing the them not back down from anyone, including the team's impressive line of imports led by NBA veteran Hasheem Thabeet.
Miller noted that Teng and Ravena’s contrasting styles of play make the duo all the more special, with the former Ateneo standout excelling as a finesse combo guard that complements the bull-strong aggressive game of the ex-King Archer.
More importantly, he’s impressed that the pair of youngsters don’t back down from anyone.
"Ang galing pareho. Magkaiba ng talent, pero skillfull pareho. Tsaka fighters," Miller said. "Yun ang maganda, lumalaban, bumabangga tsaka makikita mo kahit sa practice, di umaatras sa imports."
One of the best gunners in the PBA during his prime, Miller understands his role in the team and no longer finds the need to take over on offense in a talent-laden squad.
At 40, Miller said he’d be happy to offer guidance to his younger teammates like Teng and Ravena.
"Kailangan nalang i-control yung dalawa kasi parehong aggressive e. Siguro kaya nga ako nandito para mag-control sa kanilang dalawa e," Miller said with a laugh.
"Matanda na rin yang mga yan. Alam na nila yan. Kaunting follow-up na lang yan. Kaya sila nagiging aggressive kasi gusto nila manalo e. Pero put it in the right track, swabe na yan," he added.
Miller said he’s long been a fan of the two back in their college days but he’s even more impressed with their development after their collegiate careers. And with Mighty Sports, he gets the best seat in the house to witness and even push that progress forward.
"Sila talaga yung future. Lalo na sa college palang nakita mo na. Tapos ngayon nakasama ko na," Miller continued.
"Magandang team to. Manonood na lang ako," he added with a laugh.
