WESTERN Visayas arranged a finals match with National Capital Region after beating reigning champion Calabarzon on Thursday in the Palarong Pambansa secondary boys basketball tournament in San Jose De Buenavista, Antique.
Western Visayas, which is represented by Santa Clarita, Iloilo, defeated the San Beda Red Cubs-led Calabarzon, 79-61, in the semifinal behind its torrid shooting and full court pressure defense.
Santa Clarita will take on NCR, whose team led by Adamson and Chiang Kai Shek College standouts trounced Central Visayas of University of Visayas, 72-45.
The championship match is set on Saturday, 8:30 a.m.
NCR got off to a 9-0 start before outscoring Central Visayas, 16-8, in the second period. After taking a 51-38 lead in the third period, NCR limited Central Visayas to only seven points in the fourth period.
Gerry Abadiano added 23 points while Encho Serrano had 20 points for NCR.
