GAISANO Capital South-University of Cebu defeated San Marino Corned Tuna-Cebu Institute of Technology, 84-80, in the Enervon-Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Partner’s Cup Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The CIT Wildcats put on a solid stand behind forward Vincent Menguito, who scored 19 of his 24 points in the final period. His putback capped a 13-2 run that put them ahead, 74-69, after trailing, 61-67, early in the fourth.
But the Webmasters rallied and unleashed a 9-0 run fueled by three-pointers by Jan Auditor and Gerald Ampoon as well as a three-point play by Cameroonian import Arnaud Noah that got them an 80-76 lead, 1:38 remaining.
The Wildcats last threatened at 80-83 after a tip-in by Menguito. But the door was shut by point guard Junas Misa as he split his charities with 2.9 seconds remaining.
Ampoon scored 14 points while Auditor had 12 as UC improved its win-loss record to 6-2.
Menguito finished with 24 points but was the lone man in double-figures for CIT, which fell to 3-5.
In the other game, Prime Asia-University of the Visayas coasted to its eighth win, whipping Raphael's Sports Bar-University of San Jose-Recoletos, 70-40.
Miko Marquez led UV with 13 points and Arvie Cabanero had 10.
USJ-R remains winless after eight games.
