    Apr 10, 2015

VERGEL Alcantara hit the marginal basket as the Sydney Amigos defeated the Perth Sharks, 57-55, on Friday for their first win in the 1st Philippine-Australia Goodwill Basketball Invitational at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Amigos, a selection from the Western Sydney Basketball Association that also includes Fil-Australian players, came away with the close victory to earn bragging rights over the Sharks.

“It’s pressure off our backs,” said Sydney manager Cromwell Alvarez. “We lost three games tapos kalaban namin Perth. We didn’t want to finish (the tournament) winless. We get the bragging rights.”

Jose Flores topscored for the Amigos with 14 points while Alcantara added 12. The team rounds out its campaign with a game against Ateneo on Saturday.

Fil-Aussie Sebastian Salinas finished with 25 points for the Sharks, who will take on National University on Saturday to cap off their campaign.
