UNIVERSITY of Visayas ended its campaign in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League on a high note, hacking out a gutsy 85-82 come-from-behind win over Naga College Foundation on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Michael Maestre converted the go-ahead basket off a Rey Suerte feed with 14.4 seconds left in the game before the Jaymar Allarey's floater went long, resulting in a fastbreak lay-up for Suerte to complete the comeback.
"I'm very happy with the adjustment that they've shown in the second half. We were able to sustain our play until the end to beat this Naga team," said UV head coach Gary Cortes.
The Green Lancers trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half but showed amazing resolve in the second half behind the brilliance of Suerte.
Suerte led the Green Lancers with 30 points, 25 coming in the second half.
"Suerte is a very disciplined player and the nice thing about him is he just keeps on learning. He has a bright future ahead of him."
Bassieru Sakor added 13 points and 13 rebounds as Gileant Delator and Josue Segumpan added eight apiece.
Allarey paced the Tigers with 16 as Emmanuel Ojoula had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
