CEBU CITY – The defending Cesafi champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers turned on the jets in the fourth period to pull away from the resilient University of San Carlos Warriors, 92-78, at the start of the Asia Pacific University Games basketball competition on Wednesday at the Cebu Coliseum.
Former Cesafi MVP Rey Suerte led the way for the Green Lancers as he scored 17 points while former Mythical Five forward Monic Soliva added 16 markers, all coming in the second half.
Cesafi Mythical Five member Jerome Napao added 13 markers while team captain Josue Segumpan chipped in 10.
The Warriors held a precarious 61-58 lead heading to the fourth before the Lancers dominated the final canto with a huge 34-17 kick to give them the easy win.
Suerte, Soliva and new recruit Melvin Butohan, formerly of the University of Cebu, drove the winning wagon home as they connived to score 26 points in the last 10 minutes of action.
The Warriors got 20 points from rookie forward John Reel Saycon while veteran off-guard Victor Rabat had 18.
