Tigers down Pirates to complete seven-game sweep of Fr. Martin Cup eliminations

KIM Lo scored 15 points and hit the game-winning lay-up as University of Santo Tomas defeated Lyceum-A, 71-69, recently to sweep its elimination round games of the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the San Beda Gym.

Karim Abdul had 13 points for the Growling Tigers, who completed a seven-game sweep in Group B and a spot in the semifinals of the preseason tournament.

Lo scored the lay-up in the waning seconds for Santo Tomas, which is only competing in the Fr. Martin Cup for their preparation in the UAAP under new head coach Segundo ‘Bong’ Dela Cruz.

Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help defeated Centro Escolar University-Malolos, 101-74, for a nine-game sweep of Group A and a spot in the semifinal round.

Anton Tamayo had 14 points while Akhuetie Bright had 11 of his 13 in the first quarter for the Altas, who dominated the Malolos-based Scorpions from the start en route to a 28-11 lead.
