ARIC Del Rosario’s University of Perpetual Help will face his former team in the finals of the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.
The Altas defeated San Beda, 85-83, in overtime on Saturday in the semifinal round to arrange a title game against University of Santo Tomas, the same team Del Rosario steered to four straight titles in the UAAP from 1993 to 1996.
Del Rosario’s son Lester, however, has been calling the shots for the Altas’ campaign in the Fr. Martin Cup with Aric observing the squad from the stands.
Louie Vigil scored 18 points as UST defeated Enderun College, 74-66, in the other semifinal game held at the Trinity University of Asia Gym to clinch a berth in the finals.
Both teams are undefeated entering the championship showdown set on Thursday.
Juneric Baloria scored 18 points including a basket with 25.6 seconds left in overtime for a 83-80 lead, a cushion enough for the Altas who were dragged into extra time after Ranbill Tongco's late three-pointer.
Joshua Caracut had 20 points to lead San Beda to a 65-63 win over National University in the semifinals of the juniors division.
Adamson beat Xavier, 80-66, to settle a title game with the Red Cubs.
