ALJON Mariano and Jeric Teng combined for 58 points and made crucial baskets down the stretch of University of Santo Tomas’ 93-86 overtime victory over Lyceum on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Mariano had a game-high 31 points, while Teng added 27 to help UST book its fourth win in seven outings in Group B for a tie with Letran in fourth spot.
Teng hit the jumper that forced the extra period (75-75), before joining forces with Mariano as the Tigers exploded for 18 points in overtime.
Teng converted a three-point bucket to push UST safely ahead, 89-80.
Lyceum remained winless in five games to occupy the bottom of Group B after it failed to hold on to a 75-73 lead in the 16.3 seconds of regulation.
Karim Abdul had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers.

Incidentally, both teams also agreed to adopt the result of the Filoil game as the same outcome of their scheduled semifinals encounter in another league.
Lyceum and UST are also set to figure in the MBL Open semifinals and both schools agreed Friday’s result will be adopted as one by the MBL instead of playing in another separate match.
