UNIVERSITY of San Carlos secured the No. 3 seeding in the quarterfinals after whipping University of San Jose-Recoletos, 80-59, in the 13th Cesafi basketball tournament Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Warriors notched their fourth win in six starts to place third behind unbeaten league leader Southwestern University (6-0) and second seed University of the Visayas (5-1).

USC set a quarterfinal match with sixth seed University of Cebu.

USJ-R settled for the fourth seed with an even 3-3 mark and will face Cebu Institute of Technology-University.

Victor Rabat led the Warriors in the first period, scoring seven of his 19 points during that stretch. He also canned a booming three-pointer that all but settled the outcome of the match, 70-50, with 4:51 remaining.

Import Ahmed Salihou and guard Stephen Que tallied 12 points each while Christian Laude chipped in 10 markers.

The Jaguars came within nine on several occasions but the Warriors gained some separation with a 14-0 blast led by Rabat, Que and Ian Ortega that established a 56-32 lead late in the third.
