UNIVERSITY of the Philippines claimed its third victory in as many games after beating AMA, 98-74, on Monday night in the 2017 Republica Cup collegiate division basketball tournament at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
New recruit Bright Akhuetie had 15 points for the Fighting Maroons, who tied University of Santo Tomas for the lead in the standings with a 3-0 card.
UP and UST collide on Sunday as the tournament goes to the Baliwag Star Arena in Baliwag, Bulacan for the first game of a tripleheader starting at 3 p.m.
Also contributing for UP in the victory were Diego Dario with 13 points and Rob Ricafort with 12 markers.
Coleng Garcia had 15 points, while Miguel Magpantay chipped in 12 for AMA, which slipped to 1-3.
