IBRAHIM Outtara scored the go-ahead basket off a miss with two seconds left to send University of the Philippines to a 72-71 win over Centro Escolar University-A last Sunday in the quarterfinals of the 14th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda gym.
The putback by the cager from Mali led the Fighting Maroons to their seventh straight victory and a spot in the semifinal round along with San Beda-A, Far Eastern University, and San Beda-B.
San Beda-A won by forfeiture after CEU-B walked out with less than a second left in a tied ballgame at 76, while FEU beat Arellano, 94-84. San Beda-B, meantime, nipped Letran, 71-70.
The Maroons meet San Beda-B at 11 a.m. in the semifinals on Saturday, while FEU takes on San Beda-A at 12:30 p.m. at the Arellano gym.
In the juniors division, National University defeated Manila Patriotic School, 79-78, in overtime to clinch a semifinals berth.
Also moving into the semifinals is Hope Christian High School, which beat San Beda, 83-67.
