UNIVERSITY of the Philippines rode a strong start to a comfortable victory over winless Emilio Aguinaldo College, 83-70 - its fourth straight win in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup on Monday iin San Juan.
The Fighting Maroons showed no signs of slowing down despite playing sans Juan Gomez de Liano, who was out with an ankle injury, and Bright Akhuetie, who was rested for the match.
Javi Gomez de Liano was the spark of the bench for coach Bo Perasol, conspiring with Paul Desiderio in the breakaway first half that saw the Maroons open a 44-21 lead.
The Maroons' defense also limited the Generals to just 10-of-38 shooting in the first half.
The Generals never threatened from there as the Maroons improved to 4-3 after dropping their first three games.
De Liano led the Maroons with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting in just 15 minutes of action off the bench. Desiderio added 16 points, eight boards and four assists as Will Gozum and Jun Manzo chipped in 12 points each.
JP Maguliano topscored with 15 points and 10 boards as Rustan Bugarin finished with 12 for the now 0-5 Generals.
