UNIVERSITY of the Philippines ended its preseason campaign with back-to-back wins as it escaped University of Perpetual Help, 79-76, on Friday in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
It was a huge finish for the Maroons, who earlier beat Jose Rizal University, ending the tournament in seventh spot in Group A with a 2-6 record.
The Diliman-based squad now gears up for the UAAP and will hope to end the victory drought against its league rivals.
Raul Soyud completed a three-point play with 20.2 seconds remaining for the final count.
"We ended it (Filoil) with a bang," said UP coach Ricky Dandan.
"Now we're moving forward. We've learned a lot in this Filoil although our record shows that we struggled but it was a good win for the guys," he added.
