PHILIPPINE National Police and Ombudsman go their separate ways as they dispute the early lead in the UNTV Cup Off Season Executive Faceoff which resumes on Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Tip off is at 3:30 p.m., with the well-rested Responders, led by PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, out to pick up from where they left off following a morale-boosting 90-62 victory over defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines last May 6.
“Kami ay nag-practice at pinaghandaan talaga namin ito,” said Albayalde. “Hopefully, manalo kami this year. But then again winning the game is only second to the love of the game itself. Ang importante dito ay makapaglaro tayo ng mabuti and everyone will enjoy the game.”
Meanwhile, the Graft Busters are also determined to maintain their winning form after scoring an impressive 76-57 victory over struggling Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission Kamao last week.
“I just tell the guys to continue improving especially ‘yung stamina namin kasi nga next game namin, PNP,” said Ombudsman coach Ricky Alcantara. “Sa nakita ko, ‘yun ang pinakamalakas talaga. So every game maasahan niyo kami na if there’s an opportunity, tatakbo kami nang tatakbo.”
Raising the curtains in the blockbuster triple-header is the 2 p.m. showdown between the Senate Sentinels and the GSIS Thunder Furies, with the former also seeking their second straight victory and the latter making their tourney debut.
In the day’s final offering at 5 p.m., the Cavaliers are aching to redeem themselves and that should spell bad news for the Judiciary Magis who are looking to make it two in a row following a 73-58 win over Department of Justice Boosters last week.
