UNIVERSITY of Negros Occidental-Recoletos beat Holy Trinity College of General Santos City, 75-69, on Monday to advance in the 2014 Philippine Collegiate Champions League Visayas-Mindanao qualifiers at the Cebu Coliseum.
Jade Paul Calma and Coleen Testa scored the team’s last 11 points as the Rams, the Visayas islands titlists, set up a match against sister team University of San Jose-Recoletos on Tuesday.
The Wildcats overhauled a nine-point third period deficit and moved ahead, 65-62, after a jumper and a free throw by Christopher Masaglang.
But the Rams countered with a 10-2 blast, Calma putting them ahead for good, 72-67, with a jumper and two free-throws.
Testa sealed the win with several more free-throws in the waning seconds and finished with a game-high 20 points. Calma wound up with 17, while Kim Dimaranan chipped in 13 markers.
Masaglang paced the ousted Wildcats with 17 while Delmar Mahaling scored 14 points.
