NATIONAL University proved too much against a depleted University of Perpetual Help side, 94-65, as it kept its unbeaten run in the FilOil Flying V Hanes Pre-Season Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.
The Bulldogs pulled away right from the start, establishing a 36-16 lead after just one quarter.
The defending champions coasted from there on, posting lead of as much as 83-43 after a Glenn Khobuntin drive at the 8:34 mark of the fourth period.
“We had a very good start,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano. “I'm happy we played defense (well).”
The win was the fifth straight in as many games for Bulldogs, who remained on top of Group A.
Back-to-back UAAP Most Valuable Player Bobby Ray Parks came away with 19 points for the Bulldogs, including five three-pointers. Alfred Aroga chipped in 13, and Denice Villamor produced 10.
The Altas played without injured stalwarts Earl Thompson and Nigerian center Femi Babayemi as they lost for the third straight game.
Juneric Balora had 18 for Perpetual Help, while Gerald Dizon and Nosa Omorgbe added 16 and 13, respectively.
