ALVIN Pasaol took over in the third quarter as University of the East pulled away with a win over La Salle, 93-75, on Thursday to force a rubber match for a finals berth in the Milcu Got Skills Summer Showcase 25-under division at the Enderun Colleges Gym.

With their opponents having a twice-to-beat edge in the semifinals, Pasaol scored 11 of his 25 points in a third-quarter run that put the Red Warriors in control, 58-50, before the team began the fourth with a 9-2 run for a 77-66 lead. UE also finished the game with 12 straight points to pull off the lopsided win.

La Salle, fresh from its Filoil title victory over the weekend, played the semifinals match without Ben Mbala, Jeron Teng, and Abu Tratter—a reason why UE coach Derrick Pumaren played down the win.

“We still have to play them tomorrow. Maybe they will show up with their full bench tomorrow. But I like these games. It is helping us a lot,” Pumaren said.
