CEBU CITY – The University of Cebu Webmasters pulled away late to get their fourth win in a row, beating the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats, 81-67, in the 2018 Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
For a team that had yet to win this season, the Wildcats played with ferocious abandon and even led by 12 at one point. They were still ahead, 64-61, with 6:23 to go when the well went dry and UC took full advantage, unleashing a 20-3 barrage anchored on the scoring of Cameroonian forward Frederick Elombe and spunky guard Darrell Shane Menina.
Elombe scored eight of his 18 points during that pivotal run. He pulled down 23 rebounds and also had three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Menina, the transferee from National University, showed off his offensive repertoire and scored 29 points and dished off seven assists. The former Mapua Cardinal also had four steals.
Wingman John Calvin Jabello also had a complete game with 13 markers, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals while Justine Dacalos added 10, six boards and six assists.
Veteran marksman Kevin Oleodo led CIT-U with 17 points, Jessie Aloro added 13 while Mark Christian Kong chipped in 12.
Rookie standout Kenny Rogers Rocacurva had an off night, making just 1-of-13 from the field to finish with just four points. However, he grabbed 14 rebounds.
The Wildcats remain winless in five games so far this season.
