Having a deep background in basketball may be an advantage, but national cagebelle Bea Daez still feels the pressure as she joins the hosts of UAAP Unfront. Jerome Ascano

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines basketball player Bea Daez steps on a new court as UAAP Upfront host.

A member of the Perlas Pilipinas national team, Daez will be one of the hosts of the segment in the television coverage of the games where she will do special features on her fellow players as well as coaches before each game.

But the fifth-year player of the UP Lady Maroons is understandably far from at ease, saying the new task is not as easy as going for a layup or a pull-up jumper.

“It’s very interesting, something very new, something very different, something I completely do not know about,” she shared to

“I’m putting myself in a big risk, but the show is so promising. Hopefully it turns out well and we’ll see from there.”

Having a deep background in basketball may be an advantage, but the charming female baller still feels the pressure.

“My edge is I’m a basketball player, I know the ins and outs of the game. I’ve been playing since I was a kid and I watch everything that’s related to basketball, UAAP, NCAA, PBA, NBA as in lahat, So I hope my knowledge in basketball will help me in my transition to hosting a lot easier,” she said.

And Daez will have a personal tutor in no less than an older brother in actor and TV host Mikael Daez.

The 22-year old UP business management and accounting major shared how her celebrity brother got more excited than her when he learned about her new endeavor.

“When he found out na magho-host ako he gave me tips and pinag-host niya ako infront of him, impromptu,” she said laughing. “Medyo overwhelming and shocking but I know naman na makakatulong naman sa akin.”

“Sabi niya be natural kasi sobrang hindi pa ako sanay sa harap ng camera,” Bea added.

Unlike her natural love for basketball, hosting is an entirely different ballgame, said Daez.

“The whole thing is a learning experience for me,” she said. “Nakakatawa kasi never ko talaga inakala na magho-host ako pero andito na ako, might as well make the most out of it.”
