WILL Bartolome was a bloody mess on Saturday after being on the receiving end of an unintentional elbow during University of the East’s match against University of Santo Tomas.

Bartolome suffered a big gash above his left eye after UST import William Afoakwah's elbow landed on his head during a rebound battle. But the gutsy UE center shrugged off the blood oozing from his cut, even running back on defense, before being subbed out moments after.

“Masakit pero bumaba na lang ako sa depensa. Sabi ni coach, baba daw. Kita ko na may dugo na. Pagtingin ko sa kamay ko, dugong dugo pero kailangan dumpensa,” said Bartolome.

The 6-foot-6 Bartolome also felt the hit from Afoakwah was unintentional, part of the UST big man's natural motion in going for the board.

“Hindi naman. ‘Yung replay, rebound lang talaga,” said Bartolome.

It has been an interesting season for Bartolome, who also escaped suspension in a previous game after a disqualifying foul slapped on him in a game against Far Eastern University was downgraded.

But Bartolome vowed that he will try to contribute in any way he can for the Red Warriors after finishing with a respectable six-point, three-rebound outing against UST.

“Hindi ko expected na ganito. Ginagawa ko lang ‘yung sinasabi ng coach lagi,” the 21-year-old Bartolome said.
