VON Pessumal is relieved to have finally broken his shooting slump on Saturday after Ateneo defeated University of the East in the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament.

Pessumal shot 6-of-10 from the three-point line to finish with 21 points as the Blue Eagles proceeded to beat the Red Warriors, 77-72.

“Nakakahiya na,” said Pessumal about his slump as he entered the game against UE shooting only 3-of-24 from three-point country

Pessumal got going early, scoring 15 points in the first half including a perfect 4-of-4 clip from beyond the arc.

“I knew that I was in a groove today when I converted my first shot. I knew I had a good stroke today so I kept on shooting,” he said.

Ateneo coach Bo Perasol paid tribute to Pessumal, who rediscovered his shooting despite the team playing its third game this week.

Pessumal’s performance came as Kiefer Ravena came a rebound and an assist short of completing a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.

“Although they are tired, Kiefer nearly had a triple-double and Von, for the first time, hit his shots,” said Perasol.

Pessumal said his confidence never wavered despite the slump.

“I think I got my confidence in my coaches and my teammates. I think I had the worst shooting performance in the first three games of the season. But coach Bo, Kiefer, the coaching staff told me to keep shooting,” he said.
