UST Tiger Cubs deal NU Bullpups third straight loss in UAAP juniors basketball

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas handed reigning champion National University its third straight defeat, 51-49, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 77 juniors basketball tournament at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Nicole Luna scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Tiger Cubs, who won for the fourth time in nine games.

Roald Mayor had a team-high 13 points for UST, which took a 42-39 lead in the third period.

After winning 22 straight games, the defending champion Bullpups have lost for the third straight time and now hold a 6-3 win-loss slate for second place.

Mark Dyke had 18 points and 21 rebounds for the Bullpups.

Ateneo held on to beat Adamson, 66-61, to remain undefeated after nine games and move closer to a Final Four berth.

Jayson Andrade and Jolo Mendoza scored in the final minute of the game to break a 61-61 deadlock for the Blue Eaglets, who need only one more victory to clinch a semifinal spot.

Far Eastern University-Diliman and De La Salle-Zobel beat separate opponents to join NU in second place in the team standings.

Brandrey Bienes had 21 points as the Baby Tamaraws beat winless University of the East, 81-55. Aljun Melecio and Joaquin Banzon had 19 and 18 points each in the Junior Archers’ 79-48 win over University of the Philippines Integrated School.
